This house at Kraanlei in Ghent is the frame for the bachelor project.
The goal was to create housing for 15 people in combination with communal spaces.

Model 1:100

The design started from wanting to keep the trees and the original facades, that are important for the identity and recognition of this place.
The communal function, a kitchen for the neighborhood, takes place on the -1 level, connecting with the water.
The facades are erased in the base levels to invite users to enter within the walls of the building and integrate the street level.
The glass volumes in between the trees disappear. The greenery stays important. These volumes are public and quiet spaces floating above the busy city life.
Within the walls, the housing is organized. Volumes are stacked around a circulation core, touching, integrating or hiding behind the original facades. The apartments are organised with central idea and made compact. In this way, the communal spaces are surplus to complete the housing needs.
